UFL to Hold Player Draft on May 2

The head coaches of the five United Football League teams will announce their selections in the 2011 UFL Draft through their respective Twitter.com accounts on Monday, May 2.  Round by round selections will then be posted at www.UFL-Football.com and on team facebook groups.

“We believe this will be a social media first as our head coaches announce their selections exclusively to their Twitter followers,” said UFL Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE, who will announce the First Round selections from his Twitter account before the head coaches take over.

“The UFL Draft plays an important role in stocking our teams’ rosters and we hope fans enjoy this innovative means of communicating each pick.”

Leading off the 10-round UFL Draft at 8pm ET on Monday evening will be Hartford Colonials Head Coach and General Manager JERRY GLANVILLE, whose team holds the first pick by virtue of a 3-5 finish in 2010.

Omaha Nighthawks President and Head Coach JOE MOGLIA holds the second pick after the Nighthawks also posted a 3-5 regular season record in 2010, and will be followed by DENNIS GREEN, whose Sacramento Mountain Lions went 4-4 last season.  The Virginia Destroyers, having inherited the protected player rights of the former Florida Tuskers, claim the fourth pick based on the Tuskers’ 5-3 record and defeat in the 2010 UFL Championship Game.

Head Coach and General Manager MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER will make his selection ahead of two-time UFL-Champion Head Coach JIM FASSEL, whose Las Vegas Locos went 5-3 in 2010 and won the season finale.

Selections will be posted at the end of each round at the www.UFL-Football.com website and will be detailed on each UFL team’s facebook page along with biographical information and highlight videos.
